Chip Meyers has only one regret when it comes to becoming a franchisee with The Entrepreneur’s Source® (TES). “I regret that I didn’t make the decision earlier!” says Chip.
“My lifestyle has immensely improved by becoming a Career Ownership Coach. Before, I would get up early, leave the house to go to the office. Day in and day out. And I would have to travel a lot, domestically and globally” explains Chip, “Now I have control over my day. I can block out time when I want to. I can’t put into words how refreshing and rejuvenating this change has been for me.”
Prior to his Career 2.0, Chip had a successful career in sales management across several industries. “I had some great jobs and worked for some excellent companies. However, as companies were sold, or merged and positions were eliminated, I was on the unfortunate side of that.”
With so much of his future beyond his control, more than anything, Chip yearned for security and stability. “A steady paycheck is not really stability. We have been sold an illusion of security. Anytime someone else can pull that rug out from under you, you don’t have either. I wanted to live life on my own terms. I came to realize that for me true security could only be found by me being in control through business ownership, and franchising was the best route to get me there.”
Working with his own TES Coach, Chip began to make some realizations about what he really wanted from his career. “My coach challenged me to examine what I enjoyed. I had spent my entire career selling and managing people, but when I got honest with myself, I realized I hated doing both of those things! I just thought I had to keep doing it. I fell into that trap that many of us do, I defined myself by what I did. It was very limiting,” explains Chip, “As I started exploring different possibilities, I could see that what I really wanted most was lifestyle flexibility, control over my calendar and to not have to manage anyone but myself.”
After defining what it was that he wanted, he saw The Entrepreneur’s Source® as the vehicle to help him achieve that. “Right from the beginning, TES had a familial feel to it. Despite its size, it had a small organization feel. Coaches have access to anyone. If I need anything I know who to call and will get an answer,” says Chip.
He goes on to say, “There is a science behind the systems and processes we use. Support and technology underpin everything we do. The brand is forward thinking and always looks for a better way to do things to help coaches be more productive. And the training and support are ongoing.”
But for Chip, the real value of being a part of the TES franchise is in the network. “You may be in business for yourself, but you are not by yourself. My peer support group has been an invaluable asset. We share best practices and encourage each other.”
Chip will tell you when he first started as a Career Ownership Coach in 2018, he had some challenges. “There was a lot of unlearning I had to do. I had to let go of what had worked for me before. I needed to stop viewing everything through the sales lens and stop influencing everything through the sales funnel mentality.”
Adding, “Once I let go of my need to control everything and reframed my approach, I had a fantastic first year. I made a conscious decision to let go and rely on the systems and processes TES has in place and I quickly found success.”
Part of that reframing was to realize that the end goal was not his clients coming to a certain decision, but rather creating an environment that gives them permission to explore and be curious. “Clients are in this for their own reasons. My job is to create a safe environment for my clients to let go and define their own why; to find a new way. When they can define what they want their life to look like they can solve for that. From there everything falls into place.”
No longer managing a sales process or people, Chip now has control over his schedule and the flexibility he longed for. He also had the stability and security he lacked by creating self-sufficiency through business ownership. In addition, becoming a TES Career Ownership Coach™ has been very fulfilling for Chip. “What I enjoy most about being a Coach is when people do what I did and give themselves permission to explore. I love it when I see them have that ‘light bulb’ moment. It is a great feeling to know that you are helping someone change their life. No other career I have had has given me that type of satisfaction.”
